WIX Filters To Launch WIX Lap Leader Award Contest
Tuesday, 25 January 2005
WIX Filters, the number one filter in NASCAR, today announced the launch of the 2005 WIX Lap Leader Award Contest, an online competition that offers NASCAR fans the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and earn prizes including an all-expenses paid trip to the 2006 NEXTEL Cup Series race weekend in Las Vegas, Richard Petty Driving Experience packages and premium WIX filtration products.
The contest is designed to test fans’ expertise in each of the top three NASCAR series, the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series, NASCAR Busch Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Prior to each race, fans submit their picks for the driver they feel will win the WIX Lap Leader Award by leading the most laps in the race. Fans who select the correct driver will be entered in a drawing for one weekly winner’s prize and will earn points toward monthly, quarterly and grand prizes.
“Our motorsports relationships, and particularly those in NASCAR’s top three racing series, have helped us spread the message that WIX Filters provide unparalleled quality and engine protection,” said Bruce Johnston, brand manager, WIX Filters. “We know that brand loyal race fans are the foundation for NASCAR’s and WIX’s success, and we want to provide a fun way for fans to interact with the sport they follow so closely.”
Ninety-six weekly prize winners (one per race, per NASCAR racing series) will receive one WIX Filters golf shirt, one WIX Filters hat and one year’s supply of WIX oil and air filters for one car or light duty truck. Thirty monthly winners (one per series), selected at the end of each month of the NASCAR season, will receive one Richard Petty Driving Experience “Ride-Along” at the Walt Disney World Speedway. Twelve quarterly winners (one per series), selected after the completion of each quarter of each racing series season, receive one Richard Petty Driving Experience “Rookie Experience” at the Walt Disney World Speedway. Three grand prize winners (one per series), selected at the season end of each racing series, will win two suite tickets and two pit passes to the 2006 NEXTEL Cup Series race at Las Vegas Speedway. Grand prize winners also will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Las Vegas for the race weekend, including airfare, two-night hotel accommodations, rental vehicle for three days and $750 spending money.
Adding a celebrity element to the contest is participation by NASCAR TV personality John Roberts, host of SpeedChannel programs NASCAR Victory Lane and NASCAR This Morning, who will offer weekly predictions of the driver he thinks will lead the most laps in each of the three primary NASCAR racing series. Fans will be challenged to “beat the expert” and will earn championship standings bonus points for choosing the correct WIX Lap Leader Award winners for races in which Roberts’ picks are incorrect.
“Drivers depend on skill, hard work and luck to win the WIX Lap Leader Award and earn the five championship bonus points NASCAR awards for leading the most laps,” said Roberts. “I hope fans enjoy putting their knowledge to work in this contest and that my picks add to their interest and fuel their competitive fire.”
The contest Website, www.wixlapleader.com, will be live approximately one week prior to the first race of the 2005 NASCAR season, the Craftsman Truck Series Florida Dodge Dealers 250, Friday, Feb. 18, 2005 at Daytona International Speedway.
Fans must submit WIX Lap Leader Award picks for each race prior to the start of each race to be eligible to win weekly prizes and earn monthly, quarterly and grand prize championship standings points. Fans who submit picks after the start of a race will be ineligible to earn the weekly prize and championship standings points for that race.
Fans can sign up for the contest by visiting www.wixlapleader.com. Detailed contest rules and prize information will be provided on the Website.
WIX’s relationships with professional motorsports organizations include product sponsorships for more than 40 stock cars in the three primary racing circuits sanctioned by NASCAR. WIX is the official sponsor of the WIX Filters Lap Leader Award, which offers cash prizes for the leader of the most laps during each event within the top three NASCAR racing divisions and a year-end prize for the driver within each series who wins the most WIX Lap Leader Awards during the season.
In 2005 WIX again will be an associate sponsor of Joe Gibbs Racing, which fields the No. 18 car driven by 2000 Winston Cup Series champion Bobby Labonte and the No. 20 car driven by 2002 Series Champion Tony Stewart.
